How to prevent surgical scars

⒈ Compression therapy: stick cosmetic tape tightly on the scar, and massage it firmly to make the scar gradually disappear. This method must last for more than 6 months to be effective.

  2. Silicone sheet pressing method: stick a silicone sheet on the scar, and stick it for 8 hours a day at the beginning. After the skin slowly adapts, it can be increased to 12 hours. It takes 6 months to have a good effect. As for the mechanism of action of silica gel tablets, Quinn believes that it is the chemical effect of the sustained release of silica oil, while Swada and Son believe that the physiological effects of hydration and occlusion cause scar suppression. PS. The above item 1.2 is suitable for scars that have not been formed for more than half a year. This method of use must be used when the wound is completely healed and does not exudate or suppurate. It can be used with a scar paste.

⒊ Injecting steroids into scars: Use long-acting steroids to inject directly into the scars to inhibit excessive collagen in the scars to achieve the effect of inhibiting scars.

   Ketchum recommended dosage:

  Maximum dose/time Dosing frequency

Adult 120mg, injected once a month, treatment for 4 to 6 months

Children 40mg for 1-5 years old

  80mg for 6-10 years old

⒋ Irradiation: In the past, radiation was used to kill, inhibit or transform fibroblasts, thereby controlling excessive scar tissue proliferation. At present, this method is reserved for patients with large areas of keloids who have not responded to steroid treatment.

⒌ Other: The methods mentioned in the literature that can inhibit scars include:

  1) Vitamin A

   2) Vitamin E

  3) Inhibit collagen such as BAPN (Beta-aminopropionitrile), penicillamine, and colchicine

  4) Madecassol that inhibits muscle fiber cells in keloids

  5) Zinc Oxide

  6) Anti-tumor agents: such as methotrexate (MTX)

  7) Immunotherapy: such as interferon (interferon) and transforming cell growth hormone (TGF-B) inhibitors, etc.

The above are all common effective measures to prevent surgical scars.
