Why do we need to wear shapewear and compression clothing after liposuction?
Due to the need for appropriate compression after most surface surgeries to prevent edema, postoperative bleeding, infection, and promote healing. Sometimes the importance of appropriate pressure is no less than the importance of the surgery itself.
The appropriate postoperative compression refers to the timing selection of compression; The power and intensity of oppression; The duration and interval of oppression, etc. Insufficient pressure may not be effective, while excessive pressure and prolonged duration may cause ischemic necrosis of local tissues.
The principle of ischemic necrosis is due to excessive local pressure, which blocks the local blood circulation. But if it can be lifted in a timely manner and the blockage time is not long, there will be no problems. It is generally believed that when the local tissue ischemia lasts for more than 4 hours, it can cause non tissue necrosis.
The reason for the necrosis in this case is that both of the above conditions are met simultaneously, with excessive local pressure and prolonged duration. After the patient underwent mandibular liposuction, tissue necrosis occurred when using a low-quality elastic headgear. The elastic head cover shown in the picture has poor elasticity and stretchability, and the chin is protruding. When the pressure on other parts, such as the lower jaw liposuction area, is appropriate, the pressure acting on the chin is too high.
In addition, the soft tissue beneath the chin is the bone, and compressing the soft tissue on the bone is more likely to cause ischemia of the soft tissue. After liposuction, due to the use of local anesthesia, even if severe ischemia occurs, the patient will not feel the pain that can be felt under normal circumstances. If doctors and nurses do not promptly detect excessive pressure on the chin and chin, this outcome is inevitable.
On the contrary, if the stretchability of the elastic head cover is good, while providing appropriate pressure for the liposuction site of the lower jaw, the pressure on the chin will not be too great, and it will not cause local skin and subcutaneous tissue blood circulation disorders. While promoting healing, it also avoids complications of ischemic necrosis.
Patients are reminded that those undergoing plastic surgery and medical staff should choose formal shapewear to prevent such incidents from happening.
